Burhan Muzaffar Wani may be no more but his legacy continues in Kashmir. Hizbul Mujhadeen has put out its first posters of militants in south Kashmir minus Burhan and pledged to continue their struggle for 'azadi' in Jammu and Kashmir.

A black and white poster of the Hizbul with a picture of 11 militants superimposed on it was put up in the Shopian district of south Kashmir. The poster has the logo of the outfit on the top and a Urdu couplet at the bottom.

“Hum jang ye jari rakhange, kafir ko hum lalkarai gange... Hum le ke rahenge haq hamara, dunya ko bata kar dam le gange (We will continue our fight and challenge the pagan…We will show the world that we will not rest until we get our right),” reads the couplet.

The poster has surfaced at a time when union home minister Rajnath Singh is arriving in the state to defuse tension and help in bringing peace to the valley which has been simmering since July 9, a day after Burhan was killed along with two of his associates at Bamdoora village of Kokarnag in south Kashmir.

Around 47 people have been killed in security forces firing on the mobs since the unrest began. More than 2,200 persons have been injured in the prevailing law and order situation, of whom 1,924 have been discharged from the hospitals while 191 are still undergoing treatment, including 70 persons with eye injuries. 1,600 CRPF men have also been injured in the stone pelting.

For the last 15 days, curfew has been clamped in most parts of the valley. Separatists have called for the shutdown and issued protest calendars asking people to raise pro azadi slogans and organise blackouts in the evenings.

Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can’t live with the pain and suffering forever and tangible measures shall have to be taken to address their concerns and aspirations.  "The suffering voices of people of J&K shall have to be heard and substantive confidence-building measures taken to address the alienation and reduce trust deficit,” she said.

Mehbooba called for implementing the recommendation of the working groups constituted by the then Manmohan Singh-led UPA government in 2006.  “The suffering voices of people of J&K shall have to be heard and substantive confidence building measures taken to address the alienation and reduce trust deficit. A beginning in this regard can be made by implementing the recommendations of the five Working Groups constituted by the then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh in 2006 and reiterated in the PDP-BJP Agenda of Alliance”, she said

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had constituted five working groups in 2006 after round table conference to look into different aspects of Jammu and Kashmir. The working groups were boycotted by the separatist groups.

The mandate of the groups was to look into improving the Centre's relations with the State, furthering the relations across the Line of Control (LoC), giving a boost to the state's economic development, rehabilitating the destitute families of militants and reviewing the cases of detainees and ensuring good governance.
