Fearing attacks from rooftops on cops that are currently carrying out raids in Kasganj, the force used drones to carry out a surveillance of sensitive areas on Tuesday.

As the police teams walked through narrow lanes with houses separated by a few metres making it difficult to assess an attack, cops monitoring the images on the unarmed aerial vehicles (UAVs) gave them real time information to the search patrols about the situation prompting them to go ahead.

On Tuesday, the police began search operations at around 3.30 pm in selective locations in the Baddu Nagar area where clashes have taken place. This is the area where the accused allegedly plotted Chandan Gupta's murder. Gupta was fired at from a roof top. The main accused have been identified as Wasim, Saleem and Nasim; the three brothers are absconding. Police had earlier recovered weapons from their residence.

The police have been carrying door-to-door checks to identify rioters and also apprehended four during the search operations that were led by IG Aligarh Range, Dr Sanjeev Gupta and backed by RAF.

The raiding parties went past suspected houses that were already shortlisted knocking on them once, but broke them open if no one answered to carry out a search.

A whistle at the end of a search operation of a particular house would mean the party had checked the houses thoroughly.

While one of the apprehended claimed he had only come to get a shave, two others walked quietly with the police officials. The police are expected to continue with the raids.

"Out of the114 persons apprehended, 83 are in preventive custody, while the remaining face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," said Peeyush Shrivastav, SP City Kasganj.

Isolated incidents of people burning down shops in Ghantaghar area were reported as well. The police had carried out a raid on Monday late night and detained several persons including a friend of the deceased Chandan Gupta leading to protests in the area.
