Karwa Chauth 2017: Moonrise time, Puja Muhurat and Vidhi

Karwa Chauth is celebrated by married Hindu woman every year. This year it is being celebrated on 8th of October, 2017. 

The festival is celebrated during the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the Kartik month as per the Hindu Lunar calendar. 

Married women observe a day long fast, from sunrise to sunset, without food and water in order to pray for the well being and long life of their husbands. 

Women who observe the fast break it after offering prayers to the moon. The rituals of Karwa Chauth are simple enough for every women to abide to. Women in north observe the a day long fast without having anything to drink or eat. As the sun sets and moon appears, woman looks at the moon through a sieve, prays and then later looks at her husband. The husbands breaks his wives' fast by feeding hr with a glass of water and sweets.

Ladies in the evening gather and pray together reciting a story (Karwa Chauth ki katha) and mantras. While doing this they sit in a circle and rotate the traditional plate(pooja-ki-thaal) seven times in a circular motion.
