A 19-year-old woman from Karnataka has given birth to a 15 lbs i.e. 6.8 kg baby girl - possibly the heaviest little girl ever born in the world, reports mirror.co.uk.

Nandini, delivered her first child, a daughter, in a government hospital in Hassan in Karnataka.

The normal weight for a newborn is 3.4 kg.

The local health officer Dr Venkatesh Raju says she is not the heaviest baby born in India but the heaviest baby girl ever born in the world.

"In my 25 years of experience, I had never seen such a big baby. She is a miracle," said Dr Raju.

Doctors were concerned when they found that the mother, who weighs 94 kg and 5 feet, had high sugar levels, that the baby might have diabetes. But the baby turned out to be healthy.

The mother and the child will be discharged after the doctors make sure they both are healthy.

Nandini's daughter has beaten the previous record  of a baby boy weighing 14.77 lbs or 6.7 kg born to a Firdous Khatun.
