Karnataka to introduce cyber security courses in its state universities

Bangalore is the IT city in India and now Karnataka is set to introduce cyber security courses in all its universities. The Minister for Higher Education T B Jaychandra told media that cyber security is important in today's world as it concerns all aspects of our lives. Since the field has numerous job opportunities, it was felt that this course should be introduced in the universities in the state. Deccan Herald has quoted him as saying, "It is estimated that there are over a million jobs in the field. We want our students to make use of the opportunity."

The report adds that Jaychandra has stated that the government had got considerable funding under the Centrally sponsored RUSA scheme (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan). Karnataka had been allocated Rs 20 crore each for four universities and 92 colleges.Colleges which have got NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation would be eligible for funds under RUSA.

Two universities from Karnataka would be chosen for the ‘Generation UK’ programme. Under this programme, students from UK would be invited to come to these universities. Apparently, nine universities in India will be part of this programme. Bangalore University, the University of Mysore and Gulbarga University are among those which have been shortlisted for this.

Karnataka is also taking part for the first time in ‘Education World Forum’ to be held in London. Jayachandra and Higher Education Department principal secretary Bharath Lal Meena are going to be part of this event he stated,
