The victim, Aswathi, is a native of Pulluvanpadiyil near Edappal and was allegedly ragged by senior students at women's hostel of the college on May 9.

According to a Times of India report, Aswathi is a first semester nursing student of Al Qamar College of Nursing at Gulbarga near Bangalore and was forced to drink a toilet cleaning liquid by an eight-member gang of seniors.
