The historic moment will be the first time the two former Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers will be seen together since the SP and BSP formed an alliance during the recently concluded state by-elections
Both leaders have been sent the invites and Akhilesh Yadav has already confirmed that he will be present. Interestingly, Samajwadi Party had contested 20 seats in the Karnataka Assembly Elections , but lost badly, with some leaders even losing their deposits in a few constituencies.
The BSP had a pre-poll tie-up with the JDS and it has won one Assembly seat in Karnataka. The party is likely to get a berth in the Kumaraswamy Cabinet to share the power with the support of the Congress.
BSP sources claimed that Kumaraswamy had called up Mayawati to thank her for the support and extended an invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Incidentally, it was during her visit to Karnataka BSP Supremo had said that her party’s tie-up with the SP in Uttar Pradesh will be formally announced soon after seat sharing to form a formidable alliance against their arch-rival BJP ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha.
With the support of the BSP, the SP candidates had made the BJP bite the dust on prestigious Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats during by-polls. But Mayawati neither campaigned for the SP nor shared dais with Akhilesh till date. If the two meets in Benguluru on Monday, it will be for the first time that the two will share the dais to cement their ties further.
