Karnataka: PU lecturers call off agitation after 18 days

Pre-University (PU) lecturers, who have been agitation for the last 18 days at the Freedom Park, called of their protest on Tuesday evening in the interest of PU students. They have decided to attend evaluation work from Wednesday.

Speaking with iamin over the phone, Thimmaiah Purle, president, Karnataka State PU Lecturers' Association, said that they had decided to called off the strike to ensure completion of PU answer papers evaluation work without any delay. "We are not happy with the state government's attitude towards our demands. We are not fighting for monetary benefit but demanding to set right the anomaly that was pending for many years,'' Thimmaiah Purle said.

Purle said that PU lecturers were not interested in accepting the state government's offer of Rs 500 ex gratia and one increment. "We do not want to accept the alms offered by state government. We will chalk out a plan to continue our agitation in support of our demands,'' Purle said.

The PU lecturers have been demanding the implementation of the G Kumar Naik Committee report by the government. They had boycotted the evaluation of PU answer papers that was supposed to commence on April 2.
