As expected, JD(S) has reacted sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegation that Rahul Gandhi had 'insulted' HD Deve Gowda during a political rally in polls bound Karnataka.

"There is a contradiction inside the Congress party. They invited us to the opposition dinner, we participated in it and the next day Rahul Gandhi goes and attacks us. You host dinner for us and next day you say that JD(S) is the B team of BJP," JD(S) leader Danish Ali was quoted as saying by ANI.

PM Modi during an election rally on Tuesday had called JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda as one of the most respected and tallest leaders for whom he had great respect. "But I heard the Congress president speak at political rallies 15-20 days ago....the way he referred to respected Deve Gowda ji....is this your culture (sanskar)? This is arrogance. "Your life (as Congress chief) has just begun. Deve Gowda is among the tallest leaders of the country. You are insulting him," Modi had said.

During the election rallies for Karnataka Assembly elections 2018, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been repeatedly calling Deve Gowda party as "B Team" of the BJP.

In case the voters throw up a fractured verdict, JD(S) would play a crucial role in the government formation. Narendra Modi's remarks on Gowda as being seen as an attempt to give the voters a message that bonhomie exists between them despite the difference in ideology.

Not only, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has often accused the BJP and JD(S) of having a tacit understanding to defeat Congress in Karnataka.

Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that "arrogant" leaders of Congress party are a threat to the democracy.  Modi praised Gowda and called him "the son of Karnataka, and a farmer's son".
