PU colleges could lose recognition if they club regular classes with coaching classes for CET, AIEE, JEE, CA, CPT, and other entrance exams
In Karnataka, it is common for pre-university colleges to offer 'integrated courses'. But now the state government will crack down on all PU colleges doing so, reports The New Indian Express. There have been many complaints that these colleges are charging exorbitant fees because it is an 'integrated course' - where regular classes are combined with extra private tuition. As a result, the Department of Pre-University Education has decided to take action against colleges offering integrated courses at the PU level.
It is reported that colleges club coaching classes with regular classes and hike up the fees. The daily adds that the government does not approve of private tuitions as it feels that the college should provide education which does not require any private coaching. The report quotes a senior official as saying that the Department of Pre-University Education will also take action against principals and management of colleges engaging in this practice under the Karnataka Education Act of 1983.

Over the last four years, private coaching centres are now present in PU college campuses where they conduct classes. They provide coaching for entrance exams like CET, IIT-JEE and AIEEE before and after college hours.
While some colleges offer these private coaching classes as an add-on, others make it mandatory and charge high fees. The daily reports that private coaching classes tie-up with colleges so they don't have to go and look for customers. Those colleges that offer private tuition charge about three to four times of the stipulated fee for the PU course, adds the daily.
