D Roopa had hit the headlines for exposing special treatment given to Sasikala in jail.
Former DIG D Roopa, who highlighted in a report alleged irregularities at the central jail here, including preferential treatment to AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, was today conferred the President's Medal.
The award was presented to Roopa for her meritorious service by Governor Vajubhai Vala at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
Other police officials selected for the President's medal for their meritorious service were also conferred the medals.
In July, Roopa, then DIG of Prisons, D Roopa, had submitted a report to the Director General of Prisons stating that Sasikala, serving a four-year sentence in the disproportionate assets case at Parapanna Agrahara Central Prison, was given preferential treatment and there was "a talk" that Rs two crore had exchanged hands.
Subsequently, both Roopa and the DG were transferred after they were locked in a public spat over the issue and a high-level probe ordered into the claims.

Roopa, who scored 43rd rank in her UPSC examinations in 2000, was ranked fifth in her batch at NPS Hyderabad, and was the sole officer allotted to the Karnataka cadre.
It seems political ranking and power doesn’t matter to Roopa, as long as she follows the book. As an SP in Madhya Pradesh, Roopa arrested the erstwhile Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Uma Bharti after the court order in a rioting case.
As DCP of Bengaluru, she withdrew number of police personnel unauthorised to be attendants of VVIPs and politicians, the report stated, adding that when she was DCP City Armed Reserve, she withdrew a number of police vehicles that were being used in the cavalcade of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa without permit.
She isn’t one to mince her words. If you follow her Facebook page, she is a regular contributor to Kannada media, and has even appeared on news channels as a panellist. Recently, she was involved in a Twitter spat with Mysuru Kodagu MP Pratap Simha after four senior IPS officers went on central deputation.
She was transferred by the Karnatka government and CM Siddaramaiah had criticised her for speaking to the press. She was instead posted as commissioner for traffic and road safety, replacing her with NS Megharikh, additional DGP of anti-corruption bureau and former Bengaluru city police commissioner.
The Karnataka government had dismissed reports of "preferential treatment" being given to AIADMK leader V K Sasikala at the central jail here, saying she was being treated like any other ordinary prisoner.
"There is no truth in reports suggesting that Sasikala and (her relative) Elavarasi have been given preferential treatment at the prison. I had been there yesterday and I saw it for myself," state Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy told reporters.
He said the two, serving imprisonment in a corruption case, were being treated like any other ordinary prisoners.
"I have not enquired about Sasikala, whether she has been given any work at the prison, but if the court orders are there then she has to be given work," Reddy said to a query.
The AIADMK's General Council in Chennai had yesterday annulled appointment of Sasikala as party's interim general secretary and declared all appointments/removals made by her invalid.
Sasikala is lodged at the central jail at Parapanagrahara since February after the Supreme Court convicted her and two others in disproportionate assets case.
