In ten minutes of confusion, reports that the BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP would be forming the next Karnataka government sent shockwaves as the saffron party has only bagged 104 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections. The Karnataka unit of the BJP even confirmed the news on Twitter, but deleted the tweet minutes after putting it up.

Earlier reports that Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala had invited the BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa to form the government and prove his majority ahead of the JD(S)-Congress combine. Yeddyurappa will take oath on Thursday at 9.30 am did the rounds. However, there was still no official confirmation from either the Governor’s office or from Yeddyurappa’s office.

Union ministers Prakash Javadekar and JP Nadda reached Yeddyurappa's residence. Javadekar showed the victory sign but declined to reveal whether Yeddyurappa has been invited to take a oath. ''Let me meet Yeddyurappa and let you know later,'' he said.

BJP is the single largest party in the Karnataka Assembly with 104 MLAs while the JDS-Congress post poll alliance has 117 MLAs in a House that requires 113 seats for majority. BJP is believed to have lure one of the two independents.

Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot insisted that JD(S) and Congress should have called but the combine has not been. “We haven’t got the invitation while BJP is doing horse trading,” he alleged.

Karnataka Congress leader Priyank Kharge also alleged horse-trading against BJP. “BJP used the 3C formula on voters during elections. Convince - Confuse - Con. Now BJP is using another 3C formula to lure other party MLAs. Caste - Cabinet - Cash.”

Earlier, the day was marked by series of events. Yeddyurappa after his unanimous election as the BJP legislature party leader formally staked claim during his meeting with the Governor. Thereafter, JD(S) and Congress also drove 117 legislators to Raj Bhavan and submitted signed letter to the Governor for the formation of government.
