Congratulating Pakistan's Malala Yusufzai and countryman Kailash Satyarthi for being honoured with Nobel prize, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said both eminent personalities should work towards becoming messengers of global peace.

"I congratulate Malala and Satyarthi for bagging the Nobel prize for their work. I request them to work as messengers of global peace," he said in the state Legislative Council in Belagavi. Soon after the House assembled, Chairman HD Shankaramurthy tabled the congratulatory motion which was welcomed by all the members.

Satyarthi and Malala received the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014 for their pioneering work on promoting child rights in the subcontinent. Supporting the motion, the Chief Minister appealed to Malala, who became the youngest ever Nobel laureate, to work as an ambassador for world peace and forge cordial relations between India and her country Pakistan.

Lauding her efforts, Siddaramaiah said one should appreciate the courage of this little girl who fought against Taliban forces in Pakistan, without bothering the threat perception. Siddaramaiah appreciated the unrelenting fight against child labour by Sathyarthi and said his efforts to rehabilitate 80,000 street children and giving them education was laudable.

Opposition leader KS Eshwarappa said Bachchpan Bachao campaign launched by Satyarthi was a great example of how tireless work for a social cause gets international recognition. Siddaramaiah also said the government would take a suitable decision on extending help to Satyarthi in his fight against child labour.
