International Women’s Day was being celebrated at the Tumkur University at its auditorium on Wednesday. But a group of students were reportedly protesting outside, accusing an assistant professor of the University Arts College of sexual harassment.
A report in Deccan Herald states that the students were angry about an assistant professor sexually harassing a female student. The assistant professor was identified as Rajashekar, in the English department of Tumkur University Arts College. Among the protesters were numerous women as well, who also alleged that the professor had subjected them to sexual harassment, adds the report.
The report further states that students filed a complaint with vice chancellor Dr Rajasab. They have asked that he take strict action against the professor so that such instances do not happen in the future.
Rajasab has told Deccan Herald that he will convene a meeting with the registrar and other officials concerned on March 17 and probe the matter. He added that they will take necessary action if they find any substance in the allegations.
