In another example of government apathy, a father carried his ailing son right on his shoulders after a government-run hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh refused to admit him.
According to the Hindustan Times, the hospital emergency denied admission to Fazalganj's Sunil Kumar’s 12-year-old son, Ansh who had been down with high fever since Sunday. After being treated in private hospitals for two days, his father finally took him to the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital.

The hospital, which is one of the biggest one in Kanpur, refused to give him any help to take the boy to a children's medical centre which they suggested him to go. His request for a stretcher was turned down by the hospital.“I begged doctors at the emergency to examine my son and admit him. They took 30 minutes before telling me to take the kid to the children’s hospital,” Kumar said.
The father had to run on his foot carrying his son on his shoulders to the other hospital. However, the son died when he was just 250 metres away. "My son had high fever... He was studying in class sixth. He was very good at his studies. Doctors at the children's ward told me had I arrived 10 minutes before, my son would have been saved," the father said. "It is negligence on the part of the Hallet Hospital. They did not provide treatment to my son. They didn't even provide me a stretcher. I was running from here to there carrying my son on my shoulder," a teary Sunil said.
Less than a week ago, a tribal man, along with his 12-year-old daughter, on Wednesday walked around 10 km carrying his wife's body on his shoulder as he failed to get a vehicle to transport it from a government hospital in the backward district of Kalahandi where she died.
