One person was killed and six injured in a clash between members of two communities with mobs setting ablaze shops and houses in Ghatampur area.

The violence was apparently a fallout of an incident in which two minor boys, aged 14 and 12 years, belonging to a community were beaten up after they were allegedly caught stealing from a house in Bheetar village two days ago, ADM (City) Avinash Singh said.

An irate mob barged into the house of the minor boys this afternoon and bashed them up, severely injuring them and some even set ablaze houses and shops in which four persons received severe burn injuries.
One shop owner succumbed to his burn injuries sustained during the violence, DM Roshan Jacob said. Police has arrested 13 persons in this connection and further investigations into the matter is on, SP (Rural) Anil Mishra said.

Mishra said around six policemen were also injured during stone pelting by the mob. The minor boys have been admitted to ursula hospital here and their condition is stated to be serious, he added.

Meanwhile, DM Jacob has announced compensation of Rs 50,000 to seriously injured persons, and those who have sustained minor injuries will be given Rs 25,000. Those persons whose houses and shops were gutted in the arson will also be provided adequate compensation.

A posse of police personnel has been deployed in the area and senior officials are monitoring the situation on the spot, Jacob said.
