Kannada writer Chandrashekhar Patil to return Pampa Award to protest Kalburgi’s assassination

The assassination of eminent writer and rationalist Dr MM Kalburgi in Dharward has sparked protests by other writers in Karnataka. Now, Kannada writer Chandrashekhar Patil aka Champa is returning his Pampa Award to protest Kalburgi’s assassination.

According to the report in Deccan Herald, Patil is set to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today to return the award. The writer has stated that it wasn’t to protest the police or the government but the murderers who committed the heinous act.

He also opines that a movement must be started to change the mentality of the people.  An anti-superstition bill like the one in Maharashtra is mandated he added.
