A man in Ghaziabad was forced to drink urine as a punishment for peeping inside his neighbour's house.

A daily wage worker from Bhojpur village, peeped into the bedroom of his neighbour according to a Hindustan Times report. The incident took place on February 10 when the neighbour Amit's wife was sleeping. The woman raised an alarm after noticing the 25-year-old man and he was caught in a drunken state.

He was summoned the panchayat on February 14, and made to stand on one leg, thrashed and drink urine.

When the victim's wife went to police, it was revealed that the man was slapped by Amit and his brothers and hit by Amit's wife with a chappal in the panchayat gathering of 100-125 people. Amit had also brought a bottle filled with urine and forced fed it to the worker.

The victim apologised for his mistake and was also made to write a apology letter wherein he had said that he will move out of the village, but to no avail.

Chaman, an eye-witness confirmed the incident, he said Amit had got the bottle beforehand. “Amit said ‘iski nazar nahi uthane denge’ (We will not allow him to raise his eyes). Several people from his neighbour’s family grabbed him and forced urine to his mouth. No one got time to save him. No one came forward as it was urine. Ever since the incident, he has left his house and is staying with some relative.”

Locals also say the victim tried to self-immolate but was stopped by the neighbours.

Police arrested Amit and three others for the incident.
