Kancheepuram Lok Sabha Constituency 2019: Kancheepuram parliamentary constituency will go to polls on April 18, which is the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019. The polling in all the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in the second phase. Kancheepuram has been reserved for scheduled castes candidates. The key contest in Kancheepuram in 2019 is going to be held among AIADMK’s K Maragatham and DMK’s G Selvam. 

The AIADMK is once again banking upon K Maragatham against DMK’s G Selvam. The latter was defeated in 2014 election by Margatham with a margin of close to 1.5 lakh votes. 

AIADMK and DMK, the two major parties in Tamil Nadu, have entered into an alliance with a number of parties for the forthcoming elections. 
 
AIADMK is contesting the election in alliance with BJP, PMK, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress.

While the DMK has aligned with Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.

The district has a average literacy rate of 85%. Kancheepuram houses a total number of 3,999,000 people according to 2011 census.

Kancheepuram Lok Sabha results in 2014 and 2009 

2014: K Maragatham of the AIADMK received 499395 votes and he defeated G Selvam of the DMK who only got 352529 votes. 

2009: Perumal Vishwanatha of the Congress received 330227 votes. He defeated Dr E Ramakrishna of the ADMK who only got 317134 votes.

Lok Sabha elections in all the 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu will take place on April 18.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 parliamentary constituencies where 7 of them including Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam have been reserved for candidates representing scheduled caste community. However, no seat here has been reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
