Condolences poured in from various politicians over the death of veteran BJP leader LK Advani's wife Kamla Advani. She was 83.

Kamla Advani, who remained out of politics but was often seen with her husband in public during his long political journey, died in New Delhi on Wednesday following cardiac arrest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep pain and sadness over the demise of Kamla Advani. He said that she had always inspired and motivated party workers.

President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted:

Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressed deep grief and sorrow. Extending her condolences to L K Advani and other family members, Gandhi said she shares the pain caused by their loss and prayed for the departed soul.

BJP leaders express grief over death of Kamla Advani

Former party chief and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari called her a source of strength for the grieving family as he expressed his "profound grief and deep sorrow".

"Deeply pained to learn of Smt. Kamla Advani's demise. May God give Shri L K Advaniji and his family the strength to bear this great loss," Rajnath Singh, also a former party chief and now Home Minister, said.

"Condolences on the sad demise of Smt. Kamla Advani ji w/o Sh. L.K. Advani ji. My prayers are with the bereaved family," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.

Party's general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya described Kamla as "a Mother figure".

Other leaders express condolences

Jammu and Kashmir's new Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over Kamla Advani's demise.

"I convey my heart-felt condolences to L.K. Advani Ji over the passing away of his life's companion and pray that Almighty gives him courage to bear this irreparable loss," the Chief Minister said in her message.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra remembered her as a "sociable and inspiring persona".

"I am pained to learn about the sad demise of Kamlaji Advani. Besides being a constant source of inspiration and support behind Shri (L K) Advani's political career for more than five decades, Kamlaji's sociable and inspiring persona also motivated each one of us. I recall that she stoically maintained her calm and dignity in all situations, be it an adversity or a favorable situation. She was also an active and silent social worker among the masses," Mahajan said in a statement.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said she was a noble lady who stood with her husband throughout the life. "Smt Kamala Advani was a very noble lady who stood with him throughout her life. May God give him the strength to bear this unbearable loss," he said.

In his condolence message, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal recalled her selfless but constant presence and inspiration behind Advani's success in his political career, for which she helped him devoting all his entire time to the service of the people and the country. While it was a great personal loss to Advani, it was, at the same time, a major loss to the cause in which she actually participated along with her husband, added Badal.

"I condole death of Kamla Advaniji. May God give strength to the bereaved family," Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said in his condolence message.
