After announcing his political foray, actor Kamal Haasan has taken a step closer to launching his political party, by announcing his maiden state-wide tour from January 26.

“From January 26, I will begin my journey to meet the people. I will reveal the tour plan, including the place from where my journey will begin, in my weekly column in Ananda Vikatan,” the actor said while addressing an award function here. Ananda Vikatan is a Tamil magazine and will be published on January 18.

Haasan, while announcing his political foray on November 7, had said that he would tour the state and meet the people to understand their problems before launching his party. Haasan’s announcement for the state-wide-tour comes amidst his contemporary and friend Rajinikanth taking the political plunge after keeping his fans guessing for over two decades.

As Rajinikanth announced his decision to contest the state assembly polls in 2021 by floating his political outfit, Haasan might take a lead by launching his outfit before the superstar. Haasan attributed the delay in launching his party to his desire to build an organisation based on a manifesto that would outlast him.

Haasan, who stepped into politics after accusing the Edappadi K Palaniswami government of corruption and bad governance, is also planning to launch a whistle-blower app this month. Maiyam Whistle, the app, aims to encourage and enable citizens to expose corruption in the state. Both actors aspire to fill up the political void created by the demise of former Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and ailing DMK chief Karunanidhi.

Haasan also made it clear that Dravidian movement would not be destroyed as long as the word Dravida remains in the national anthem.
