BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday accused Kamal Haasan's newly launched political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) of enrolling her as a member by sending an email. MNM, however, denied it hours later saying that the membership was based on the request received from her side.

"I have got an email from Kamal Haasan's party saying I have become its member. Why am I going to join his party when I am the president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit? To enrol members, they are sending email to random email IDs," she said laughingly. She also showed the email she received from MNM.

Hours after Tamilisai's claim, MNM put out a tweet saying that it had got the proof of getting membership request from her email. "Welcome to Makkal Needhi Maiam ma'am. We also have a photo, just like the one you released today. Just that we are blurring out your number. Don't want the world calling you to ask how you registered for MNM," it tweeted.

In another tweet, MNM said it has a de-registering option too. "By the way, we also have a de-registering option, just in case this has embarrassed you in front of your party," it wrote.

Interestingly, the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit landed in controversy when it conducted missed call membership drive in 2015.
