Iragavarapu, a native of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, helped Trump win in Arizona
Actor Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam has roped in US President Donald Trump's campaign strategist in Arizona — Avinash Iragavarapu — to help his party office bearers sharpen their strategy to emerge victorious in next year's Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu. Iragavarapu on Wednesday addressed the MNM's district level office bearers on how to face the elections, said Haasan after the training workshop in Coimbatore.
Iragavarapu, a native of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, helped Trump win in Arizona in the US. The IIM Lucknow alumnus got his first success in India when he helped YSR's Congress led by Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Later, after he helped Republican Doug Ducey win the Governor's election in Arizona, he was appointed the executive director of the Arizona Republican Party.
"Experts from different fields addressed the workshop to help train the district level office bearers. Donald Trump's campaign advisor Avinash was here and he spoke among us on how to face the polls," Haasan said, adding that it was the first meeting and more such workshops would be organised in the future.
The actor-turned-politician also announced that his party would contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls next year, but would not contest in the bypoll to the two Assembly constituencies. "We will watch the by-elections, but not take part in it. We will also tell people what the right choice is," he said. When asked whether the contesting the bypolls would help test his party's strength, he said that his party's want to test its strength in the "bigger arena".
