Dangwimsai Pul, widow of former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, led a delegation to Vice President Hamid Ansari's house on Tuesday to request a court-monitored investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

In a three-page letter submitted to Ansari, 40-year-old Dangwimsai said, "Given the gravity of the allegations (of corruption) contained in the note and the fact that many of them are from his personal knowledge and that a suicide note is treated like a dying declaration, this matter needs to be seriously investigated by a credible investigation team."

The late CM hung himself on August 9, 2016 at his official residence in Itanagar. Ten sets of his type-written (in Hindi) 60-page spiral-bound suicide note bearing his signature on every page that was found around him. In the letter, the former CM alleged corruption by the Chief Justice of India JS Khehar, Justice Dipak Misra and even President Pranab Mukherjee.

"Since it also involves the Chief Justice and another sitting Judge of the Supreme Court, to protect the independence of the judiciary, it should not be investigated by any investigative body controlled by the Government," Dangwimsai's letter said.

"It was to protect the independence of the judiciary that the Supreme Court in Veeraswami's case said that any allegations against the sitting judges of the higher judiciary can only be investigated by an investigating authority after obtaining the prior permission of the Chief Justice of India," the letter said.

However, since the Chief and the President themselves are the subject of scrutiny, the widow urged VP Ansari to take the reigns and look into the matter with "senior-most judges of the Supreme Court not named in the letter."

This is Dangwimsai's second attempt at getting the letter investigated. Last week, she had written to the Chief Justice seeking an administrative probe in the letter. However, the letter was treated as a petition and was listed in front of an inappropriate bench, as per the Veeraswamy judgment.

Aggrieved over the turn of events, senior advocate Dudhyant Dave representing Dangwimsai had then withdrawn the letter submitting his intent to approach Rashtrapati Bhavan.
