In a departure from family tradition wherein politicians from the Scindia royal family would not campaign against their clan members, union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today addressed a public meeting in support of a Congress candidate who is taking on his aunt and BJP MP Yashodhara Raje Scindia in the upcoming Assembly polls.

Yashodhara, who represents Gwalior Lok Sabha seat, is contesting Shivpuri Assembly segment which falls under Jyotiraditya's Guna Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress has fielded Virendra Raguwanshi from the seat for the November 25 elections.

According to sources, there was a mutual understanding in the Scindia clan since the days of late Vijaya Raje Scindia and Madhav Rao Scindia that the royals will not target each other even though they represent different political parties.

However, when Yashodhara jumped into the fray from Shivpuri, Jyotiraditya, also the chief of the state Congress election campaign committee, had left with no option but to campaign against BJP.

Though Jyotiraditya refrained from singling out Yashodhara during the meeting, he was unsparing in attack on the ruling BJP government and appealed to voters to ensure Raghuwanshi's victory with a huge margin.
