Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the chopper purchase scam will hardly be effective as it will not have representation of different parties and the move without an FIR is an "attempt to befool" the people.

BJP also said that setting up a JPC without registering an FIR will be useless and "an attempt to befool" the public and delay the probe.

"This will hardly be a JPC. It will be a CWC (Congress Working Committee)," Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said.

A majority of opposition parties, including BJP, JD(U), Trinamool Congress, CPI and AGP, boycotted the JPC and staged a walkout in Parliament when the motion on the issue was passed by voice vote in Rajya Sabha.

"It is wrong on the part of Congress to compare the situation with the JPC on 2G scam. It is a totally different situation here when there is no FIR and no court monitoring. Talking about a JPC without an FIR is absolute dishonesty. JPC without an FIR and without court monitoring is humbug," BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He said till there is an FIR and a court monitors the probe, setting up of a JPC will be like "befooling the public" and "an attempt to delay the probe."
