A court in Jodhpur has issued notices to Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and separatist leader Masarat Alam while allowing a revision petition seeking action against them for alleged treason and statements about secessionists.

The petition cited Sayeed's statements soon after his oath-taking ceremony about Pakistan allowing peaceful assembly elections in J&K and termed the state government's action paving the way for the release of Alam as "anti-national."

The court has also issued notices to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP President Amit Shah on a plea by the petition terming them to be equally responsible because of their "silence" on these statements. District judge (Metropolitan) Ram Singh Meena has sought replies to all the notices on the next date of the hearing on April 16 and has referred the matter to the ADJ court.

According to the petitioner Ratan Singh, "I felt badly offended by these statements of Sayeed after his oath-taking ceremony as chief minister of J & K, in which he had given credit of successful and trouble-free election in the state to the Hurriyat leaders and Pakistan."

"He had further advocated the release of Hurriyat leader Masarrat Alam from jail, which again hurt my sentiments as a patriotic citizen of this country," said Singh. He alleged that the chief minister has misused his powers and that too in utter disrespect to the Constitution and the law of the country in releasing Alam. He charged Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah also equally responsible, instead of taking a firm stand against this "audacity" of Sayeed and reigning him in, remained "silent, which also amounted to treason."
