JNU missing student: Charge sheet filed against man who made ransom call

The Delhi police has filed a charge sheet against a man, arrested for allegedly making a ransom call to the relatives of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, demanding Rs 20 lakh for his release.

The charge sheet filed in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Dass claimed that 20-year-old Shameem had made the ransom calls to one of Ahmed's relatives, assuring him of his release after payment of the money.

According to the court sources, the charge sheet claimed the accused had even given them a location where they were asked to come with the ransom amount.

The police claimed to have recovered some mobile phones and SIM cards, which Shameem had allegedly used to make the ransom call.

Shameem had allegedly committed a murder when he was under 18 and had spent five months in a juvenile home, the charge sheet said.

Shameem was arrested in January from Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh.

Ahmed, an MSc Biotechnology student, went missing on October 15 after a scuffle allegedly with ABVP affiliated students at his hostel in the JNU campus. A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced by Delhi Police on any information about him.
