It may finally be a ‘dream come true’ for BJP councillors who have been dreaming about becoming chairmen of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) standing committees as after a wait of six months the civic body could form committees this month.

According to sources, the BJP organisation has told Jaipur mayor Ashok Lahoti to form the committees soon.

When Lahoti took over on December 14, 2016, the BJP organisation had promised that general body meetings would be held on time and standing committees would also be formed soon. But promises remained assurances only and even after six months the committees could not be formed. As per Rajasthan Municipalities Act, the meeting should have been organised within 60 days but no meeting has been held after the last general body meeting held on February 9.

Formation of committees has also been delayed and some councillors had complained about it to party organisation functionaries. Some councillors approached their respective MLAs and the legislators then discussed the issue with party state president Ashok Parnami and mayor.

It is said that the committees would be formed this month after convening a JMC board meeting. As the state government has made three electricity committees, 23 committees would be formed this time.

There has also been an agreement that three councillors from each of Kishanpol, Civil Lines, Adarsh Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Vidyadhar Nagar and Malviya Nagar Vidhan Sabha areas would be appointed as chairmen of committees while one councillor from each of Bagru and Amber Vidhan Sabha would be made chairmen. Two councillors from each of Hawa Mahal, Sanganer and Jhotwara constituency areas would be made the chairmen.

Notably, the JMC has been working without committees for the past six months and due to this the day to day working of the civic body also gets hampered. JMC mayor Lahoti had to present budget for 2017-18 financial year as there was no finance committee.
