Militants greeted the Ramzan ceasefire by killing a youth and looting three riffles from police guard post in two different incidents across the Kashmir valley.

Police said a group of Lashkar-e-Tioba militants abducted a 25 year old youth from his residence at Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday night.

Identified as Hilal Ahmad Parray, his body was found in the orchards in Hajin on Thursday morning.  The body was spotted by locals who informed the police. Preliminary investigations reveal that he was strangulated to death.

"In the intervening night of May 16 and 17, three to four Pakistan based militants assisted by a local militant Saleem Parray affiliated with Lashkar-e-Tioba barged inside the house of Abdul Rashid Parray at Parrey Mohalla in Hajin and abducted his son Hilal Ahmad Parray", said a police spokesman.

Police said family members had made attempts to resist the abduction of Hilal but the militants had beaten them ruthlessly and forcibly taken away their son.

In a separate incident, suspected militants looted three riffles of cops posted in a local hotel in Dalgate area of Srinagar.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Range, VK Birdi said they are investigating the matter as three rifles have gone missing.

This is the second incident of riffle snatching in the last 24 hours. Militants snatched a riffle from a policeman deployed on guard duty at University of Kashmir gate on Wednesday.
