'A big success': LeT commander Waseem Shah killed in Pulwama encounter

Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

The two LeT men have been identified as Waseem Shah and Hafiz Nisar.

Security forces launched an operation in Litter area of Pulwama this morning following information about the presence of the militants in the area.

The militants opened fire on security forces which were retaliated by the law enforcement personnel.

Speaking to media, Jammu and Kashmir IG Munir Khan said "Of the two terrorists, Wasim Shah was very notorious and his elimination was a big success as he used to recruit cadre for LeT."

Khan said that both the terrorists were first asked to surrender but instead, they started firing, following which the troops retaliated and gunned them down.

"One civilian died and one civilian got injured in crossfire between terrorist and security forces during the operation," he added.

A day ago, security forces arrested Hizbul Mujahideen militant in Pulwama district, while two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed on Wednesday in an encounter in Bandipora.
