J&K put on terror alert ahead of Amarnath Yatra

The intelligence agencies has issued an alert of terror attacks ahead of annual Amarnath Yatra starting from June 28 in Jammu and Kashmir. The agencies have gathered intelligence that Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiyaba, and Hizbul Mujahideen has stepped up activities in South Kasmir, especially in Shopian, Anantnag, Budgam, Kulgam and Pulawama and using sleeper cells to mobilise potential attacks during the pilgrimage.

The alert stated that there would be an increase in attacks against security forces in the coming days and aggressive counter-terror operations is being planned to neutralise threats. Decoding the chats from across the border further pointed that that political activists could become the soft targets for Pakistan sponsored terrorists to disrupt peace and trigger chaos in the valley.

It states that terrorists have sneaked into the hideouts along the national highway to regroup and carry out attacks. Two back to back intelligence based operations in the first week of June in Machhil and Keran sector points out that that terrorists’ infiltration by Lashkar and Jaish have been intensified. Based on intelligence agency inputs, the security forces has launched intense manhunt in Rampora, Baan, Yasoo, Furrah, Hawoora, Wanpoh and Panzath areas of Kulgam. Also security forces have been asked expect attacks in Heff Shirmal, Chak Chollan, Nagbal, Trenz and Zainapora.

Not only Kashmir, threat persists in Jammu areas. There is threat to security forces or security forces installations in Hira Nagar and Kathua or in general areas of Jammu. “A group of terrorists is planning to carry out warlike attacks near Hiranagar bypass or general areas of Jammu,” the alert stated.

Seeing this the security forces began re-deployment of personnel for focused, information- based anti-terror operations. In 2018, till mid-June, 38 civilians, 40 security personnel and 95 terrorists have been killed.
