Heavily armed terrorists attacked the ancestral home of Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Hajj and Waqf, Syed Farooq Andrabi, injuring two guards, before decamping with some rifles at Dooru in Anantnag district of poll-bound South Kashmir.

Andrabi, a senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader who represents Dooru constituency in the J&K Assembly, was not at his residence when the attack took place late on Sunday evening. This is the third militant attack that took place in different parts of central and south Kashmir on Sunday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, SP Pani, told DNA that apparently it seems that the attack was on the police guard and the intention could have been to snatch weapons.

“It is his (Farooq Andrabi) ancestral home and he does not stay there. Apparently, two constables are injured and we are looking into it,” said Pani. The police have started an investigation and a manhunt has been launched to nab the terrorists responsible for the incident.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s younger brother Mufti Tassaduq Hussain  is contesting on a PDP ticket from Anantnag.
