The Jammu and Kashmir government recovered prime land which was encroached upon in Rajouri district and suspended a khilafwarzi inspector in connection with it.

"A joint team of revenue and police officials held a drive for removal of encroachment after construction of illegal structures was noticed. Five structures, including three residential sheds, were demolished and prime land measuring 2.3 kanals was retrieved," Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said.

Soon after receiving the information about the encroachment last evening, Khilafwarzi Inspector and Patwari visited spot and Khilafwarzi Inspector reported that he had stopped the construction, he said.

But later when the deputy commissioner visited the spot, he found the construction to be going on in full swing, he said.

Executive Officer, MC Rajouri remained untraceable while khilafwarzi inspector reported one hour late after repeated calls, he said.

During the demolition, the encroachers alleged that the khilafwarzi inspector had allowed the construction after receiving a bribe of Rs 40,000.

Tehsildar Rajouri Salam Din Chouhan and Station House Officer (SHO) Sudhanshu Verma led a contingent of nearly 30 men and demolished the structures amid strong resistance from the encroachers, he said.

In view of his non-cooperation in stopping the encroachment and the complaint received during the demolition, Khilafwarzi Inspector Mohd Farooq was placed under suspension and attached with the DC office, he said.

Meanwhile, a show cause notice has been served to the executive officer, municipal committee Rajouri for his failure to respond to the situation and for remaining untraceable, he said adding that Additional DC A S Chib will conduct a probe into the matter.
