A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel has been killed in action during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the Line of Control in Baramulla’s Naugam sector in north Kashmir.

Confirming the death, BSF said that Sub Inspector Rakesh Dobhal sustained a head injury at about 12:20 PM while on duty at FDL and succumbed to his injury at about 1:15 PM.

“The SO has made Supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to the nation while facing enemy heavy CFV. He was a resident of Ganga Nagar Rishikesh Distt Dehradun UK. CFV still continues,” a statement issued by the force said.

The Indian army had earlier said that an infiltration bid was foiled by them following which Pakistan initiated a ceasefire violation in the Keran sector and later to a larger area.

“The suspected infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops. This was accompanied by the initiation of an unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) by Pakistan along the LoC in Keran Sector by firing mortars & other weapons. The befitting response is being given,” a statement read.

A civilian has been critically hurt after a shell blasted near him in the Uri subdivision of Baramulla. He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The ceasefire violation has caused panic among the residents.
