J&K: Army trooper killed as avalanche hits army post in Tangdhar

The avalanche hit the Army post near the Line of Control (LoC) at Roshan Post in the Tangdhar area around 8 pm on Tuesday night.

Jammu and Kashmir: In a tragic incident, an army trooper was martyred and two others were injured after an avalanche hit an Army post in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The avalanche hit the Army post near the Line of Control (LoC) at Roshan Post in the Tangdhar area around 8 pm on Tuesday night.
 
Confirming the incident, SSP Kupwara said, "snow avalanche hit Army post last night and one soldier got washed and unfortunately he died."

An officer in the army said that three soldiers were swept away. Two of them were rescued and are under treatment their condition is stable.

The martyred soldier is identified as Rifleman Nikhil Sharma of 7 RR. Authorities. An avalanche warning has been issued already in upper reaches of Kashmir valley following recent heavy snowfall in Kashmir. 

In a similar incident earlier in May, an Indian Army officer and a sapper lost their lives while their patrolling-cum-snow clearance party got caught in an avalanche in North Sikkim.
