Amid Hizbul Mujahideen 'commander' Burhan Wani's death anniversary, Pakistan on Saturday violated ceasefire in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir, killing two civilians.

The Pakistani army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatic weapons and mortars on Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector from 0630 hours, a defence spokesman said.

The Indian troops retaliated effectively, he said.

The Pakistani troops rained mortar bomb shells and resorted to heavy firing targeting civilian villages as well.

"Very heavy shelling is going on. So far two civilians have died in Pakistani shelling in Khadi Karmara village along the LoC," he said, adding that some other people suffered injuries.

The indiscriminate firing and shelling by Pakistan began at around 6:30 am. The firing is ongoing and the Indian forces are effectively retaliating.

In June, there have been 24 ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army in Poonch and Rajouri districts besides a cross-LoC attack.

On June 26, the occasion of Eid-ul Fitr, the Pakistani Army fired small arms and automatic weapons and shelled mortars along the LoC in Bhimbher Gali sector of Rajouri.

Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in Burhan Wani's native town of Tral while restrictions in rest of the Valley.
