Resident doctors of state-run JJ Hospital who are on a strike since Saturday, after two of their colleagues were assaulted following the death of a patient, got the support of their counterparts in the civic-run Sion Hospital who went on a one-day strike today.

Resident doctors at Sion Hospital said that theirs is a one-day token strike to show solidarity.

"If the strike gets prolonged, we will run a separate Out-Patient Department (OPD) for patients," a spokesperson of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors Amol Hekare said.

Doctors said hospitals were provided security guards following similar incidents earlier, but these guards were manning the entrances.

Speaking to DNA, Alok Singh, Kem Hospital's MARD President said, "We will be holding a meet in evening to decide further course as per consensus. We are working but have organized black ribbon protest at KEM Hospital."

Dr Avinash Supe, Director of BMC major hospitals said that they have enough security personnel (around 800) in all major BMC hospitals and all CCTVs also working as promised during the last strike.

"The regular resident doctors at Sion are just supporting JJ strike and no medical services at Sion are affected," he said.

Two resident doctors, including a woman, of J J Hospital in Byculla, were allegedly assaulted on Saturday by relatives of Zaida Sanaullah Sheikh (45), after she died while undergoing treatment there.
