That IIT-JEE topper, Pranav Goyal has his roadmap for the future ready right after the results were declared on Sunday, speaks volumes about the dedication he must have prepared with for one of nation's most competitive examinations. The Chandigarh-based boy plans to pursue engineering in computer science from IIT Bombay. He scored 337 marks out of 360, leading AIR 2 with a margin of 11 marks.

Goyal's repository is full of academic achievements, which he has achieved with the right balance between working hard and having fun. He got AIR-4 in the JEE Mains held in April, and was also the tricity (Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali) topper in CBSE class XII examinations, non-medical stream with a score of 97.2 per cent. His matriculate score was CGPA 10. He attributed his success to sustained and focused studying. "If you are not focused, the number of hours you put in is of no use. Your knowledge about concepts should also be sound, besides having a planned approach," he said.

The student of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula, however, did not deny that diligence and being industrious brought him the success. "It involved a lot of hard work. When I started preparing, I only wanted to be among the top 10, but as time went by, I aspired to top JEE," shared the son of an entrepreneur couple. His parents, Pankaj and Mamta Goyal, jointly run a pharmaceutical company in Chandigarh. "My teachers and parents, too, supported me thoroughly, guiding and motivating me at every step," he shared, adding how he regularly de-stressed himself by reading mythological novels or watching movies. "I was not obsessed with studying as is the common notion for all toppers. I just knew how to remove myself from studying when I was having fun, and focus only on academics when required," Goyal said.
