JEE Mains 2016: All Super 30 students clear the first hurdle

All 30 students of the current Super 30 batch cleared the JEE (mains) exam. Mathematician Anand Kumar’s brother Pranav announced the news during the class. He was quoted saying by Hindustan Times: “You have come this far. Now, your destination is not far off. Keep working hard. You all will get there.”  

A student from the class added that they won’t relax, until they clear JEE (advance). It was believed that the cut-off was lower than last year – 100 for general category, 70 for OBC and 52 for SC category and 48 for ST.  The Super 30 consists of 30 students from economically backward section. The classes were started by Anand Kumar in 2002. 

More than 12 lakh students gave Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) exams. On April 9 and April 10, the online examination for paper I and paper II was conducted. The offline exam was held on April 3 for both the JEE Mains papers.

According to the Super 30’s description: “Super 30 is a highly ambitious and innovative educational program running under the banner of "Ramanujan School of Mathematics". It hunts for 30 meritorious talents from among the economically backward sections of the society and shapes them for India's most prestigious institution –  the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). In the last seven years, it has produced hundreds IITians from extremely poor background. During this program students are provided absolutely free coaching, lodging and food. Super 30 targets students from extremely poor families.  They have all seen the change with sheer disbelief in their eyes that their children are now going to be top technocrats."
