A woman legislator of Bihar's ruling Janata Dal (United) Monday resigned from the party and said she will to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Vaishali constituency as an independent candidate.

"I have resigned from the JD (United) because there was no respect for me in the party," said Annu Shukla, wife of former MP Munna Shukla, who is in jail in connection with a murder case.

Annu Shukla last month revolted against the JD (U) and threatened to contest from Vaishali after being denied a party ticket.

Her resignation came a day after the JD (U) Saturday suspended three women legislators, including a former minister, for campaigning and seeking votes for candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal.
