The Janata Dal United (JDU) on Monday criticized the government for making December 25 'Good Governance Day'.

"December 25, holds major importance not only for Christians in India but from all over the world and by doing this they will embarrass the entire country and we will strongly oppose it, it shouldn't be done," said JDU leader Ali Anwar. "It's a design of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS); they are purposely selecting major days and making it important for themselves," he added.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that national 'Good Governance Day' will be observed each year on the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

December 25, is however celebrated as Christmas Day all over the world.
