The Jats of Bharatpur and Dholpur called off their agitation for reservation under OBC category on Saturday. The agitation ended after successful second round of talks between Deeg MLA Vishvendra Singh and the state government officials. The community has also cleared blockade of the train and road routes.

The first round of talks between the Jat community leaders and Social Justice and Empowerment Department Director Dr Samit Sharma had failed on Friday evening. The chief minister had to rush secretary of the same department BL Jatawat to Bharatpur to hold the second round of talks at IG office.

During the talks, which lasted more than one and a half hours, a consensus was reached on all issues. In a written document handed over to the Jat leaders, the government has promised to study survey report by OBC commission and complete the reservation process by passing a proposal in the cabinet meeting to be held next month.

Jats in Rajasthan have been classified as Other Backward Classes (OBC), except for the Jats of Bharatpur and Dholpur districts.

After getting the assurance from the government, Bharatpur Dholpur Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti convener Nem Singh Fauzdar appealed to his community to to remove blockade of rail and highway routes in the district, which was cleared by Saturday afternoon.

While talking to reporters in Bharatpur, Vishvendra Singh praised CM Raje for her efforts and said that Jats were upset with false promises made to them for the past two years. The dialogue would pave way for reservation of Jats, he added.

Meanwhile in Jaipur, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi said it was great injustice to Jats belonging to Bharatpur and Dholpur who were not classified as OBC while the Jats in other parts of the state come under OBC.

He said that the government would soon pass a proposal in the cabinet meeting and introduce a bill in the Assembly.
