Expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh today came out in support of Narendra Modi on the snoopgate probe issue, saying he was "averse" to this kind of investigation.

"I do not know the details of snoop gate. I am personally averse to this kind of investigation initiated," he said, adding it was "not a correct step".

Singh's comments assume significance as he was recently expelled from the party for contesting as an Independent from Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha constituency.

"I am not talking about any one particular individual or party, but this kind of investigation is not a correct step," Singh said during a media interaction at the Press Club here.

The government today said that a judge will be appointed to conduct probe into Gujarat 'snoopgate' before counting of votes in Lok Sabha polls. This led to sharp criticism from the BJP with its leader Arun Jaitley claiming that no judge will "lend" himself to the "political and malafide" exercise targeting Narendra Modi.

In his interaction today, Singh also attacked BJP and Modi stating there is either one man leadership in the party or it is confined to a small coterie chosen by one personality.
