Jammu and Kashmir | Woman killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Rajouri's Pukherni area

Even as Indian Army continues to battle the Jaish-e-Mohammad fidayeens in 36 Brigade headquarters at Sunjuwan in Jammu, Pakistan Army opened another front and shelled Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) killing a woman in Pukherni area of Rajouri district.

"Ceasefire violation in Pukherni-Lairan area. Parveen Akhter of Lairan died due to bullet injury. Sub Divisional Magistrate, Additional Superintendent of Police handling situation," tweeted Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, District Development Commissioner, Rajouri.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when Pakistan Army fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the LoC in the Rajouri district.

The fresh ceasefire violation comes two days after Zainab Bi, a 45-year-old woman, was killed and three Army personnel --Havaldar Lakhvinder Singh, Havaldar Balvir Singh and Lance Naik Charandeep Singh -- were injured when Pakistan Army fired indiscriminately in Mankote sector of Poonch district. 

The fresh violation of ceasefire comes seven days after Pakistan army killed four soldiers including a Captain and injured another on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rajouri district of Jammu division.

More than 20 people have been killed in the Pakistani shelling on Line of Control (LoC) and International border (IB) across Jammu division since January 17. More than 60 people have suffered injuries and 50,000 people have fled their homes in Jammu division. 

Meanwhile, operation to flush out Jaish-e-Mohammad fidayeens at 36 Brigade headquarters at Sunjuwan is continuing.  

Three fidayeens have so far been neutralised. Two soldiers were also killed and nine others including commanding officer Colonel Rohit Solanki has suffered injuries in the attack. 

The gunfight started after fidayeens stormed the army camp and took shelter in the residential complex meant for Junior Commissioned Officers on the weekend hours of Saturday.
