Pakistani troops contiued the heavy firing and mortar shelling at Indian posts on Sunday violating the ceasefire. The offensive was carried on even in civilian areas killing at least six civilians including a sarpanch in multiple ceasefire violations along the LoC at Balakot region in Poonch district.

As per latest reports, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Kanga Gali, Manjakote sector (Rajouri, J&K). Three civilians have been injured and admitted to Rajouri Hospital.

Nisar Ahmad Wani, an administrator near the Line of Control, a ceasefire line dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan, in Indian-controlled Poonch district, said a woman was killed when a shell landed in her kitchen as she was preparing breakfast for her family. "Five civilians, including a 12-year-old child, were killed in Pakistan firing and nine people were injured on Saturday."

Six civilians were killed in the ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops at Balakot region of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.  Around 17 people have been injured in the firing by Pakistani troops. Heavy mortar shelling is going on the area and the villagers residing in the border areas are being vacated by the army.

The firing which was reported to have stopped after 7 pm on Saturday, again started at 12 am in the night and since then has not stopped. People in the area terrified as nobody even dared to take dead bodies for last rites. reported ANI quoting local resident.

Local residents also said that the army has advised them to evacuate the area immediately.

The offensive on Indian positions in Jammu region came as the country celebrated the 69th Independence Day and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent his greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying promoting friendly ties between the two neighbours was in mutual interest.

The dead were identified by police as Karamat Hussain, who is sarpanch of Basoni, Abdul Rahman, a government teacher, and Mohd. Sheeraz, a 17-year-old boy. A nine-year-old boy identified as Moin Khan was killed during the Pakistani firing in Hamirpur sector, police said.

The National Security Advisors(NSA) of the two countries are also due to meet in New Delhi on August 23.

There have been 36 violations of the 2003 ceasefire accord in August till this evening and this is the seventh consecutive day that Pakistani troops have shelled Indian posts along the Line of Control(LoC) in Jammu region, an Army official said.

Officials in Pakistan said two civilians were killed and five wounded in firing by Indian forces.
