All eyes are on the All Parties Meeting convened by the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday to discuss the prevailing law and order situation and the measures to be taken to restore peace and normalcy in the Valley.

More than 45 people have died in the violence since the unrest began after the killing of Hizbul Mujhadeen commander Burhan Wani on July 8. Around 2115 persons injured during the prevailing law and order situation, 1924 have been discharged from the hospitals while 191 are still undergoing treatment including 70 persons with eye injuries. Plus 1500 CRPF men have also been injured in the stone pelting.

Premier opposition National Conference (NC) has decided to boycott the all parties meeting to be held on Thursday.  NC general secretary Ali Mohommad Sagar has written to Jammu and Kashmir minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri expressing inability to participate in the meeting under the present circumstances.

“Statements from various high-level functionaries of the ruling coalition especially the PDP have not only added to the confusion but have significantly weakened the institution and office of the Chief Minister. Confusion about how much the Chief Minister knew regarding the Burhan encounter is one such example”, said Sagar.

After five days of communication blockade, newspapers hit the stands on Thursday after the editors and owners decided to resume publication after meeting the J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday.

Amid curfew, Mehbooba government has decided to reopen schools in four districts – Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipora and Ganderbal on Thursday in a bid to puncture the agitation balloon of the separatists in Kashmir.

After 13 days of unrest, the authorities have gone into a proactive mode and asked the employees to report to duties forthwith. “Government employees of District Srinagar are advised to report for their official duties. Their identity cards shall be treated as curfew passes during office hours wherever restrictions are imposed”, said an official spokesman.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Asgar Hussain Samoon reviewed the overall law and order situation reiterated their appeal to public for assisting civil administration in restoring peace.

Separatists meanwhile have extended the hartal call till Monday. However they have asked people to open shops after 2 pm on Thursday to allow the masses to stock the essentials and prepare for long bout of agitation.
