A major search operation has been launched by the security forces and police in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir at suspected hideouts of militants.

This is the second such search operation in less than a week.

Security forces on Wednesday recovered Chinese flags along with incriminating material during raids at suspected hideouts of militants in Baramulla and arrested 44 people for their alleged involvement in "terror-related activities".

"Over 700 houses were searched in a span of 12 hours on October 17 in an extensive search operation in old town in Baramulla, during which 44 persons involved with terror related activities have been apprehended," an army spokesman said.

Over a dozen of employees have also been dismissed by the Jammu and Kashmir government for alleged anti-national activities.

With over 90 people killed so far in the clashes, the death toll continues to mounts and the number of injured also continuing to soar. As per reports, over 7,000 people have been detained along with the arrest of a human rights activist Khurram Parvez.

The unrest began soon after the killing of poster boy Burhan Wani, a commander of militant organisation Hizbul Mujahideen along with two other militants in an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on July 8.
