From the diaries of the Uri fidayeens, it has come to light that they had been handed over a proper plan by their Pakistani handlers to carry out the attack on the army camp on Friday to inflict maximum damage. Six soldiers and three policemen were killed in the attack. All the six terrorists were also gunned down.

In a fresh incident on Sunday, terrorists armed with grenades attacked a polling booth in Jammu and Kashmir’s Tral constituency on Sunday, injuring one Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan. This attack comes a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Srinagar

dna has access to the Uri diaries, which clearly shows how the six terrorists were briefed to reach to the camp and carry out a sensational attack. Handwritten in Urdu, the diaries mention an unnamed army camp, which they wanted to attack.

“From the jungle hideout, we have to go in 35 degrees direction and travel 1.5 km towards the camp. Then we have to cross two barracks on the road and enter inside... Immediately upon entering, we will clear one residence (quarters),” reads the translation of the diaries.

“Then we will enter into two others (residential quarters)... Afterwards, there are a few residential quarters and trees. On the other side of the residential quarters is a wash room and a few more barracks from where armed personnel can come and attack. After clearing them and advancing further on the right are more residential quarters to be attacked... There is a distance of 920 m from the hideout to the camp,” the diary reads.

Sources said there have been many firsts attached to this attack. For the first time, the six men were pushed in directly from Cham on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) to hit at a specific target.

For the first time, there was no guide who could help the militants cross over. This was done to maintain the high confidentiality of the operation. For the first time, the men were pushed in with a map up to Gingal, which is on one side of the camp of 31 Field Regiment in Mohra, which was attacked.

Lieutenant General Subrata Saham, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps, said that their estimate is that the infiltration happened in the night of November 3 and 4 and they hid in the jungle and terrain.

“Quite clearly, there is a road between Baramulla and Uri, which are densely populated. The clear aim must have been to strike at targets to cause fear and disrupt peace. In the process, they came and banged this position of ours,” he said.

Lt Gen Saha said the maps show that their staging area was north of Jhelum. “GPS with several points came en route to a particular spot on the road between Uri and Baramulla. Of course, they did not come to hit the exact spot. They surely were coming to pretty populated areas,” he said.
