Jammu and Kashmir: 3 terrorists gunned down by security forces in Kupwara encounter

In a major success for security forces, three terrorists were gunned down in a swift operation at Halmatpura area of Kupwara district in North Kashmir on Tuesday.

Indian Army said militants attacked their patrol at Halmatpora in Kupwara this afternoon. 

Earlier it was reported that four terrorists were killed in the operation. 

"Army patrol responded swiftly when fired upon by terrorists in Halmatpora area in Kupwara district this afternoon.  Four terrorists killed so far. Operations continue", tweeted Chinar Corps of the Indian army.

In the ensuing gun-battle four militants were killed so far. “Four terrorists killed so far. Operations are continuing”, said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir police said the encounter was in the advanced stage four bodies have been recovered so far. “Encounter is at advanced stage. Three bodies of militants recovered so far . Search is on,” tweeted Kashmir Zone Police.

This is the second encounter in which militants have suffered huge casualties in the last five days. 

Three militants of Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Gazwat ul Hind were killed when Jammu and Kashmir police repulsed the attack on the BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan and cornered the militants in a residential house after chasing them down at Balhama area of Khunmoh on Thursday afternoon. A personal security officer of the leader and CRPF jawan was injured in the incident.
